Imani vibrantly captures three vignettes of life in modern day Uganda: A child soldier returning to the parents who could not protect him, a woman fighting to get her wrongly accused sister out of jail, and a youth dance troop leader struggling to simply get through a hometown performance. These seemingly disparate stories slowly fuse into a profound singular narrative as the characters reveal themselves to be uniformly off balance in their own lives, and the world around them. Caroline Kamya’s fast and confident directing effortlessly makes the most of the beautiful Ugandan setting. With a rich and varied soundtrack, and the restless energy of the dancers it follows, Imani sprints by at the pace of a far less substantial film. Kamya’s unadorned approach to her characters and the film’s straightforward and unflinching script, provide an intimate exploration of characters who will likely remain far from resolution for some time to come.

The Uganda Diaspora Network is a forum aimed at bringing together Ugandans who live and work abroad by celebrating their contributions overseas and also encouraging them to give of their time, talents, ideas and expertise whilst inspiring the next generation of Ugandan leaders. Every year the Ugandan Diaspora Network will organize an annual Social Networking Gala and will also produce a quarterly publication highlighting the successes of the various Ugandans residing overseas. Carol I’m glad you can film such a high profile movie… I’m a script writer who has written my own called “Asylum beyond borders. It’s basically about the RPF and one patriotic leader who saw his native country being torn apart by racial segregation pioneered by colonialists. The Rwandan people got divided on ethnic lines that some of them moved outside their country in search of places to live. those who managed to reach Uganda met different government discrimination but the patriot joins Uganda’s two armed struggles that led to the overthrow of president Idi Amin and then in 1986 that brought in the NRM… It was lesson he borrowed and together with some of the Rwandan soldiers in the NRA went to liberate their own country with an idea of uniting the people like they were before the colonial gov’t. The story is interesting and gives lessons to both Uganda and Rwanda. I need someone to produce it.
